I had a great time during my much needed getaway - visiting Mackinac Island, crossing the 'Mighty Mac' over to the Upper Peninsula, taking the Pictured Rocks boat tour, seeing a ship go through the Soo Locks, and crossing the International Bridge to venture around Canada for a couple hours! (Btw: My first time being 'out of the country!')

Having more than 15 shops where you can buy fudge, its no wonder Mackinac Island is also known as the "Fudge Capital" of the world!

We enjoyed touring the Grand Hotel and hopping on a horse-drawn carriage to tour the popular stops along the island. We stuck around in the evening and the packed streets eventually thinned out, and it almost felt like a whole other place once the lamps turned on. 

In the morning we grabbed a Ferry back to mainland and crossed the Mackinaw Bridge over to the Upper Peninsula. We got to enjoy a platter of 'poutine' (French fries topped with cheese curds and gravy - a hearty Yooper dish.)

Afterwards, we decided to cruise along the Pictured Rocks. So glad I happened to be wearing "Pictured Rocks" nail polish, because the colors we saw in the rock formations sure didn't disappoint! 

Lastly, we enjoyed the view from the Tower of History in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. We were lucky to catch a large ship going through the Soo Locks!
