The presence of chemicals has been found in blood and urine samples of women who applied nail polish containing concerning ingredients; illustrating the fact that these harmful chemicals can be absorbed into the body. Harm to children may be obvious, but pregnant women (and their fetuses) are also at high risk of being negatively affected by nail polish.
One of the main issues with nail polish and other personal cosmetics is that the FDA does not have the legality to regulate manufacturers on their ingredients and formulas before products are released into the market. Therefore, the FDA can only take action after products are released and studies come out discussing potential dangers.
