Best Michigan Locations for a Proposal
There are so many wonderful places in Michigan that make for a stunning site for a memorable proposal. The thing about proposals, though, is they're (most of the time) engaged in (get it?) by surprise. Someone might hint or give ideas, but the surprise factor still seems to be a shared goal.
When preparing for something like this, it must be kept in mind that maybe a person does not want only a beautiful backdrop but rather an entire experience. Most of the listed places account for that, and rather than merely being somewhere beautiful. They represent forms of inspiration and create a sense of nostalgia that can be unlike any other. Each location is selected for being somewhere that meaningful intentions can be set in mind and body, and then mirrored back through spatial relations.
Fredrick Meijer Gardens
By far one of the most exquisite places for inspiration in the state, the Fredrick Meijer Gardens are astounding to be in but far more astonishing to share a monumental moment with. The best time of the year to make this special place the one would be in the early spring when the butterflies are in “bloom”, along with all the botanical aspects of the garden itself.
Keep in mind, though, that this location is also home to a sculpture garden. If you or your special someone is an art lover, then this garden area may be ideal. The gardens are the spot to share the iconic experience with if you are an avid supporter of cultural diversity and artistic expression. The flowers express both of these in the pure, natural form, giving the metaphor of a blooming life and an organic connection.
Grand Haven Pier & Lighthouse
The Grand Haven Pier & Lighthouse is located in the beautiful town of Grand Haven. There are two light stations, one being the actual tower and one being the house. The boardwalk that connects them is stunning to catch a view of during sunset and sunrise. This location would make an excellent proposal location at these times of day, especially if someone has a thing for Michigan aesthetics.
If you are a big traveler, Michigan enthusiast, regular visitor, or anything like that, and are considering planning a Michigan proposal, utilize the benefits of collaborating the concept of the representation Michigan holds for your relationship personally. Grand Haven is a magnificent Michigan themed location, giving a sense of what the state has to offer in every facet that makes this place so special.
The water, the smell of the beach, sand and friendly faces, the lighthouse, and the sound of the seagulls; this all pairs so well with Northern Nail Polishes’ line of colors. Whether it be the vibrant color of Oh Buoy! Big Waves! or the sparkle-shine of I <3 U 2 MI & Back!, Michigan matches every occasion! This is especially so at Grand Haven Pier and Lighthouse.
Veldheer Tulip Gardens in Holland
The tulip gardens of holland are magnificent. Honestly, there isn't another place quite like this one in Michigan, especially during the Tulip Festival. The loud colors and beautifully landscaped area will make anyone feel like they're in a wonderland. Not to mention the Dutch heritage that pools out from every edge and crevasse within the garden, the store, and the fields; this place is unique in more ways than one.
A proposal would be ideal during the Tulip Festival because this is when the location is booming with blooms, fresh-cut flowers, and with all the beautiful pollinators that follow in suit. The buzzing in the clean, fragrant air works to resonate your intentions with the geographical location during the experience. This is also a great choice if someone's heritage is that of Dutch background!
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore
Whether it be at the Miners Castle or at the tip of the ridged shores of the Pictured Rocks themselves, this location is serene. It can produce the most magical, natural form of proposal, framing in the experience with imagery of growth and prosperity. If hiking isn't an option and dining isn't ideal, there is also a non-stop boat tour from May till October. This gives both a crowd reaction and a beautiful surrounding scape to the special moment.
Isle Royale National Park
Ideal for anyone who is an avid nature advocate or just plain lover, the Isle Royale National Park showcases some of Michigan’s most rugged and isolated territory. This may not be the place to go if you’re planning for a group of photographers to stow away for the perfect shot. Rather, it is perfect for someone who wants to appreciate the lasting love they have found among the peaceful waters and landscape of this lastingly beautiful Michigan location.
You can access the island by ferry or by seaplane unless by chance you happen to have your own method of crossing the lake. If you choose to spend the day there, either ensure the timeframe adheres to the ferry's schedule or pack your own gear. Camping is a regular activity to do in such a natural space, so no worries, it is allowed. For a proposal, the “great escape” feeling is strong with this sort of technique. Ideal if you’re going for a “we can take the world on” experience!
South Manitou Island at Sleeping Bear Dunes
South Manitou Island is located within the Sleeping Bear Dune National Park. It is known for its unique landscape and history. Whether you find inspiration from the 10-mile pebble beach, the astonishing sand dune formations, the old-growth of white cedars, or the experience of walking through a pause in time, this spot brings a lot to the table.
If you consider this location, it could come as quite a surprise as it is not the usual proposal spot. Ideal for the nature-loving, outdoor orientated couple, as it demands the adherence to trails and foot travel, leading to a lot of walking. There is the potential of getting a photographer to the island, as it is welcoming to visitors and tends to be a local hotspot, though it would take some careful planning.
This, though, is by far one of my favorite locations for a proposal in Michigan, especially if you are not from the state. It brings Northern Nail Polishes recent release, I <3 U 2 MI & BACK, to life. This would be the type of place to collaborate a “hint” gift with the actual act of proposing, ensuring that the memory is soaked up long after it’s over.
Charles Mears State Park, Pentwater
Charles Mears State Park is a favorable place to enjoy summer days if you are in or near Pentwater. It hosts the shoreline of Lake Michigan, offering beautiful swimming areas and a gracious lighthouse. For that special moment, this location can be just right, especially if you're lucky enough to get a shot with the wondrous sunsets as the backdrop.
For those who feel particularly attached to Independence Day, this location also offers an impressive firework display that has been used as a theme for some of the most unique, American themed proposals! Throughout the year, some other festivals and events host fireworks, such as the Homecoming Festival. These make for a fun date weekend filled with activities such as sand sculpting and parades, leading into an evening you won't forget.
Don't forget to consider purchasing a polish or two from the Northern Nail Polishes store when planning for a big event, such as a proposal. There is a color for anything you could be doing in the State of Michigan (or out of), and this even includes getting engaged! Check out the Polish of the Month for January 2020, “Compassion” if you are looking for something that aligns with the feeling of love while splashing in some Leelanau blue shades.
You can count on NNP to keep their products clean and reliable— toxin-free, cruelty-free, kid-safe, environmentally friendly, and chip resistant. There is nothing else someone could expect from a line-up of shades like they've got, especially for such an important event!
