Top 10 Places for a Michigan Wedding

Michigan is such a fun state for weddings, as there are too many beautiful places to choose from. Wait, is that fun or overwhelming? Either way, NNP felt that due to this time of year being so popular for popping the big question, we'd help get Michigananders on track with some of the most renowned- and those that are not, but should be- wedding venues!

1.   Planterra Conservatory (Ceremony + Reception)

The Planterra Conservatory is a spectacular garden venue, unlike any other. Boasted by renowned reviewing groups, such as Brides.com, the venue will surely leave an impression on guests, but more importantly on the bride and groom. The astonishing botanical themes inspire a sense of growth and beauty that moves its event-goers.

The venue offers a quality assortment of luxuries, such as a large guest space (up to 200 people), food and beverage servicing, in-house designers, layout and timeline planning, rentals, valet, and much more. Not to mention that a person can hold the ceremony and reception simultaneously— either indoor or outdoor— saving both the spotlighted party and their guests all that inconvenient travel time.

This venue provides peace of mind through its elegant layout and floral displays and adds a helping hand to the whole process of a wedding— which we all know can become a full-time job to prepare for in itself. Enjoy a natural, botanical wedding experience, and then celebrate underneath the beautiful Michigan night sky at the Planterra Conservatory.

2.   Castle Farms  (Ceremony + Reception)

This venue is over the top with elegance and classical theming. Castle Farms offers areas for both ceremonies and receptions, some being indoors and some outside. This collaborative approach is sure to meet most wedding standards. The assortment of locations available to an event is sure to be appreciated, courtyards, gardens, dining rooms, and more.

The venue also supplies various general wedding fixtures, such as a sound system and microphone, an array of furniture (tables, chairs, podium), and even certain décor items (hanging baskets, candles). If there is an intention to serve alcohol, the company does provide a bar set-up and can suggest reputable service providers, though the wine must be sourced through 1918 Cellars.

The venue is home to a few other exciting provisions that can be worked into the special day and all the events surrounding it. Schedule wisely, and you could even enjoy the Canvas Paint and Sip as a fun bachelorette event!

3.   Michigan Wedding Barns (Ceremony + Reception)

This venue is ideal if you need a location that can supply services outside of just the site and hope for a more rustic theme. The Jordan Valley Barn and Blue Sky Barn both hold at least 190 guests and offer various amenities such as DJ servicing, alcohol catering, and much more. They showcase vintage-styled décor met with a high-class arrangement.

One of the best things about this outstanding venue is the services and provisions offered at no extra cost. This includes on-site coordinator assistance, furniture (such as tables, chairs, guest seating), buffets, and optional unique décors, such as the marquee or fairy lights.

4.   The Ballroom at McKay (Reception)

The Ballroom at McKay tends to be a secret spot for those in Grand Rapids looking for a private, luxury setting. The ballroom is a catch-all reception venue that provides a selection of caterers and an in-house beverage service. The best part, though, is their highly recommended flexible décor team. Please take advantage of their interactive online floorplan tool to prepare the reception of a lifetime, or at least see if its the right fit for you

This venue offers exquisite design and classical themes that are elaborately crafted to match the vision that is being expressed. The ballroom can hold up to 200 guests for a reception and is conveniently located in Grand Rapids' heart.

5.   LOFT 310 (Ceremony + Reception)

LOFT 310 is of the most diverse venues that are in Michigan. This “8 venues in 1” approach is incomparable to anywhere else in the state. Being a “one-stop-shop” for weddings and receptions, LOFT 310 has it all; catering, planning, design and décor, and even beverage services.

There is a lot to appreciate about their many ceremony options, such as the classical Skydeck or more modern LOFT 310. Featuring beautiful views, personalized seating options, and decorations to match any ceremony! Their reception locations are just as excellent— and all on the same block in downtown Kalamazoo! The ones with the most ratings include Penthouse 601 and The Gatsby, though there are quite a few connected directly to ceremony venues if that sounds ideal.

6.   Stonegate Manor (Ceremony + Reception)

Petite weddings are defiantly in fashion right now, but this venue was specializing in them even beforehand. Stonegate Manor is a beautiful estate with vintage spaces, traced by a garden aesthetic. It is by far one of the most affordable high-class venues in the area that offers both small and large wedding ceremonies and receptions. Choose from packages for just eight guests to ones as large as 250.

Bask the natural scape that surrounds the property and celebrate your big day with peace of mind. All packages, big and small, include:

  • The furniture needed for the event (tables, seating).

  • Access to a covered patio space.

  • Handicap available bathrooms and parking.

  • Unlimited access to a wide assortment of eclectic décor and twinkle string lighting,

  • Bar set-ups for both indoor and outdoor events.

  • Wedding Cottage access.

  • Ceremonial site selection.

  • Buffet and gift tables.

Some packages include other additions that are by far worth the increase once the total price of any outsourced services are accounted for. This can go as far as designing and supplying the wedding cake itself!

7.   The Blue Dress Barn (Ceremony + Reception)

This is one of the more revolutionary venues in the state. The Blue Dress Barn set the stage for wedding barns, being the first of its kind in the nation as of 2003. Amelia and Kirby Briske are fine art designers from Chicago who have dedicated their careers to cultivating one-of-a-kind experiences for each of their clients.

The Blue Dress Barn offers three primary package deals for the weekend, ranging from $4850 to $6100 depending on the day. Seating up to 280 people, the venue offers more than expected from similar styled media. They go the extra mile to theme their décor and furniture for both the ceremony and reception so well that it is almost guaranteed you'll be completely satisfied by their provisions-- saving decent money on decorations. This includes amenities such as handicap accessible bathrooms, a fire pit, horseshoe games, chalkboards, vintage table and chairs, and even on-demand maintenance and janitorial services.

Don’t just take it from us though, see for yourself. Blue Dress Barn’s website photo gallery does all the speaking needed. The elegance of the biome, the contrasts of natural colors to the beautiful dressings, and the extravagant décor that is included with the venue and various packages are all a bit too much. If you're hoping for a surreal wedding that can accommodate small to large guest sizes, this is the place.

8.   Apple Blossom Chapel (Ceremony + Reception)

Being one of the most affordable yet classy wedding venues, I felt that it deserved to be on the list. Known as a Garden Venue, this location offers a serene water view, framed by foliage and string lighting. Choose from a casual elopement ceremony and package, a garden ceremony, or a package deal of the ceremony with the reception.

Their receptions are not as fairy tale as their actual ceremonies, but they are reliable whether rain or shine and provide a great alternative location for ceremonies if the weather happens to fall through. A dance floor, lighting, décor, and most needed furniture is all included, as well as on-demand staff to help with set-up and take-down. If you're looking for something outdoors, affordable, and easy to transition from one segment of the event to the next, this venue is the way to go.

9.   Campblodgett  (Ceremony + Reception)

Camp Blodgett doesn't sound as appealing as it is. Being a multi-functional venue and providing space for the community, this location is perfect for simplified yet lavishing ceremonies and receptions. Choose from the beautiful chapel approaching or something more sublime and inspiring, such as the shoreline area. The reception can host at least 150 people, making it ideal for both micro and macro-sized weddings.

The best part about this venue is the freedom that is allowed with ease. It feels like, with many venues, there is a push to use in-house offerings, and though this can be convenient, it can also add to the total price when in fact, you don't need all the assistance.  By investing in a ceremony, reception, or both at Camp Blodgett, you are funding the facility's overall focal point— to educate and stimulate the youth of West Michigan. This has been quite influencing for those with a high humanitarian aspect to their personality, as most wedding venues are simply for profit (and rightfully so, but this puts a wholesome spin on it).

10.  UAW Black Lake

UAW Black Lake is a very interesting venue, appealing highly to those who are eager to see their large investment go towards something productive. This venue is located within 1000 acres of heavily wooded forests, which are capped off by Black Lake's shorelines, located in Northern Michigan.

For ceremonies and receptions, this site offers various options. Choose from a rustic venue that features a lakeside view and an antique-styled log cabin for the perfect private wedding experience or a beach house themed event with prestigious water views. Though the offered reception experiences aren't as glamourous as some of the other venues have presented, they are very accommodating to size— seating up to 350 guests, and all at one price. There is also the hospitality house option (bi-leveled) and outdoor tent option if you seek something more involved. Both allow for more freedom and scenery. This is usually ideal for micro-events.
